For anyone unfamiliar with Dwarf Fortress and wondering what all the fuss is about, I recommend the classic 'Boatmurdered' chronicles:

It's a fairly long read, but as always when Dwarf Fortress is involved, it's well worth the effort.

It's also hilariously outdated, to the point that the game had a whole dimension less than it does now.

Still a great read though

I loved reading Boatmurdered many months ago; is there anything of similar quality that reflects the current state of affairs in DF?

Bravemule (http://www.bravemule.com) is a great read, and it's a lot more current that Boatmurdered.

Not quite the same, but an awesome glimpse of the story-telling potential of this game:

Sadly, no. While there are numerous different attempts at LPs and stories within DF, nothing manages to both capture the game itself while being laugh out loud funny. It really is one of those rarely replicated gems.

Edit: Although I will say that Tim Denee's attempts come closest (see jayrobin's comment https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5983250).

The Dwarf Fotress Headshoots LP is from 2009, but it is a 3D version of Dwarf Fortress. I have seen it mentioned as equivalent to the Boatmurdered.

There is a Hall of Legends on the forums. I recommend Nist Akath for humor and excitement. His fighting dwarves become unbelievable.
