Uh, it sounds like you have pretty poor luck...

I feel like I am in the minority because I don't think I know anyone who spends time buried in his/her phone like this. Hell, if I could get my friends to respond to my messages within a couple of days of me sending them, that would be a start!

Not at all. While still young, I learned to have realistic expectations about relationships. This saved me a lot of pain and heartache. So I've been lucky.

So what you're saying is that I need to go ahead and learn to have "realistic" expectations, so that I might settle for partners who do things I hate?

It actually sounds like you got disillusioned and probably heartbroken and are now scared of intimacy but don't realize it because you've activated a defense mechanism and are rationalizing your fear as "having realistic expectations".
