At this point I'm imagining Sam and the gang getting their orders from a loudspeaker in a room full of blinking lights, inhabited by a thin moving shimmer that looks more and more like a basilisk with every action they take.

Most companies started shifting from openai models to cheaper and simpler versions. My guess is that they are fighting all other companies because they will not be able to sustain the lie if they have competition.
I am not saying that some of those models are not useful, but they are not what they are saying.
