I started reading Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars, but I found it much drier than I expected. It's been a lot of space politics so far, and less colonising mars. I was hoping for more The Martian. I might just read The Martian again instead

The sequels are possibly what you were expecting to read in the first book, which IIRC its ending paves the way for it. Politics don't go away though, but it doesn't stagnate either. Much dynamism in and among the factions.

I was sold it as "Red Mars is where they colonise mars" but from the part I've read so far, it seems pretty colonised already, and the racism has already set in

I heard the Martian is extremely dry because it's all technical descriptions :)

Incidentally Mars is the only Kim Stanley Robinson book I liked.

I mean, it's not all technical descriptions. There's humor, problem solving, blowing up historic space hardware with a short circuit. Exactly what I'd expect from trying to survive on mars
