No it’s just as crap as it always was. There just wasn’t much point in moving the code to anything else as it only gets updated once every 5-6 years.
It’s a utility that converts a horribly obsolete binary format from a thoroughly obsolete bit of hardware into text so it can be processed. Working since 1989.
Hah, makes perfect sense. I have a handful of ancient Perl scripts I run for specific purposes every great once in a while. If I used them enough to actually need to maintain them, I’d probably port them to Python or something. I think we both ended up in the same place via the same route.
In other words, a real curiosity – the stuff held in the highest esteem here on HN (according to the guidelines).
