That being said, I wonder whether some drones would just be much cheaper and simpler. Do humans need to go so fast??
When the Soviet Union launched what amounted to a tin can into space, America lost its collective mind, and we are still benefiting from that response to this very day.
There are programs in the US trying to ramp up to build drones for much cheaper than Iranians can do. I believe the current published cost in the US is $30,000 versus Iran's $70,000. The American version of the copied Iranian drone is much more modular and upgradable than the supposed Iranian model. Again, this is recent published information...the truth might be better.
But at the same time, think about what comes after the drones. What can defeat the drones? Where is the puck going? Maybe that might be partly driving what the U.S. Is doing here.
Or it could very well be that all the geniuses have left the room and we are truly in managed decline. We'll have to wait and see what happens. But we can't make assumptions about the conclusion at this point and anyone doing so is just being disingenuous.
