Recently my friend took out her phone and started googling by pecking virtual keyboard. It felt like a throwback to times long gone. Something akin to pulling out a walkman and decisively pushing in a mechanical button to start the playback.

Should she have used her neural implant instead?

Maybe she didn't want to bother other people by talking out loud to her phone.

I just seen a lot of people recently that spoken to AI so typing into a searchbox looked positively ancient.

Is this ironic or serious? As opposed to what? Typing it into a Chatbot? Speech input? I use commercial and self-hosted AI as well as (meta-)search engines, RAG, books, journals and whatever else I can get my hands on to search/learn. Neither is useless or old-fashioned and it’s great to be able to approach the goal from more and more angles that can complement each other. As for mode of interaction: For many things, I’m so much faster and more fluent when typing and reading that I don’t bother with speech.

Conversional speech input. It's not my favorite, but I've seen people using it for quick inquiries recently, so typing looked odd, especially into a search box instead of AI chat.
