He literally calls openly for the ethnic cleansing of undesirable populations from Europe. Just read his blog. There's no subtlety or nuance.

You're using the word "literally" very liberally here.

Sending migrants back to their home countries is not ethnically cleansing.

Forced displacement of an ethnic group is one of the definitions of ethnic cleansing. It's also considered a crime against humanity.

DHH hasn’t committed a crime against humanity. He just said he would not consider one entirely bad if it made him feel safer when walking around his house.

Yes, that is literally what it is.

I don't think he's been literal about ethnic cleansing, even though I strongly disagree with his political views on the matter.

Anyway, he also supports open weights models, which IMO is a good thing.

So maybe separate the artist from the art? He's not running for elections, that's for sure, so as a citizen he can have the political views he likes, doesn't mean the software is bad because of them.

He calls for removal of people based on their ethnicity. What would you call that?

The word he uses is a pejorative for the Romani, an ethnicity.

As I've said before, I strongly disagree, but what I read is that he calls for the removal of those behaving in a way that (in his opinion) make the city of Copenhagen less safe, or at least that change the perceived security of the people living there.

Gypsies create issues almost everywhere in Europe, but it's not based on ethnicity, most of the ethnic Roma are fully integrated, some of them are not, in Italy many Sinte families are linked to mob and criminality in general.

Do they deserve special treatment because of their ethnicity?

And what if they are not regular citizens?

It's an open problem, DHH's solutions it's absolutely not my solution, but there's a still a difference between what he said and calling for ethnic cleansing.

No one will reply to you because it requires thinking through this problem with the same nuance they accuse DHH of not appreciating. I'm right there with you.

I'm guessing taking a stance like the one below kind of does put you in the direction of more hardline perspectives:

I am saying the proof is there, and I am assuming I'm being read by people curious enough to check what I'm saying.

The OP could well be referring to DHH's recent blog post comparing Roma in Copenhagen to a predatory species that needed to be culled.

I thought he was referring to his "London that I used to know" posts, wasn't aware he'd been at it again.

Mostly because HN is full of two kinds of things: tech bros that think that "everything shouldn't be political durr" and actual literal fascists that think that palantir is a good thing.

I'm not fully surprised by it. Pissing in their cornflakes and reminding everyone what they are is what matters, not points.

It's disappointing more than anything, I never agreed with him on everything but he was at least somewhat interesting/relevant to listen to at the peak of the RoR days and mostly harmless.

If you, having read his blog, are going to say that, then you're either epically naive, or you're deliberately whitewashing his messaging.

I mean, we can also expand with him being a xenophobic, great replacement conspiracy theorist, actively supporting racial hatred and violence dickwad if you want.

The "smear" you're mentioning is actually him smearing his shit all over the walls on his personal blog, and indeed, it reeks of fascism.

Even before I read this blog post only the way he behaved on The Standup made me suspicious, raised some red flags.
