It is indeed a builtin, but `/bin/[` still exists for compatibility reasons!

   $ which [
   /bin/[
   $ type [
   [ is a shell builtin

The same is true for the `test` command:

   $ which test
   /bin/test
   $ type test
   test is a shell builtin
