It is hard to know. Amorous gifts aren't uncommon, especially for those with the means. If it were done as tactlessly as your headline suggests, that would be problematic. However, as Musk is a partisan figure, I have a hard time accepting it at face value. Several additional layers of interpretation and incentives are between us and the actual event.

People of all classes do boorish things regularly. Bringing it up as some kind of gotcha is illustrative of my larger point.
