That link preview bothers me a bit from a privacy standpoint. Hovering over a link will now hit that website. Hmm.

View on HN

You have to click and hold

> Just long press any link

It says right there on the page.

It said before you click, that's why. I missed that part.

The post (and this clarification [0]) state that you have to either long click or select "Preview Link" from the context menu.

Their heading a bit misleading: "See what's behind the link before you click." really should have said "see what's behind the link after you click but before you release the button".

You have to long-press it, not hover.

You can set it to always do it on hover, which is actually more annoying (you toggle it by tapping shift) because I did not realize it was permanently on, so every link on HN became a link preview for me the other day.

I was wondering about that, anybody know how that works?

If you click the “learn more” link it explains it.

It says you have to click and hold

Sure, but (I think this is what the commenter was asking about), it has to hit the page in order to generate the preview, does it not?

Yes, but clicking also results in your browser having to hit the page. The concern is doing so accidentally, which is reasonable if it required a hover interaction (but luckily, it doesn't).

Obviously but you are triggering it, if you don’t do it it won’t do it.

Safari is exactly the same on iOS at least.
