"What to Submit

On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That includes more than hacking and startups. If you had to reduce it to a sentence, the answer might be: anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity."

That's literally anything & everything, though. Making there no point to having that rule when submissions are thus judged by the special "majority opinion" club.

Not discarding preemptively what can be interesting is probably a good thing.

"Off-Topic: Most stories about politics, or crime, or sports, or celebrities, unless they're evidence of some interesting new phenomenon. Videos of pratfalls or disasters, or cute animal pictures. If they'd cover it on TV news, it's probably off-topic."

TV news varies between countries. A piece about a new Wes Anderson movie is TV news, at least in many countries where the news isn't drivel.

"strongest plausible interpretation"

The "TV News" reference must mean "somehow inconsequential events". The piece about the movie will be part of the "cultural" section in the news.

You have to duly try taking expressions for what they seem to have meant to mean.

I find this article from the New Yorker to satisfy my own intellectual curiosity. I think that's the wording in the guidelines on what to submit on this site.

I think the idea is not "relevant to hackers in service" but "interesting to hackers as a broad profile".

Building things? Doing things? Creating? Assessing? Managing? Understanding? Noting? (Etc.)

Samurai Jack too, we like good colors and style and writing.

Style and design are relevant to both hackers and startups. Wes Anderson certainly fits the profile... If you are ignorant of design trend setters your are a sitting duck.

I agree with the metric, and a piece about the evolution of Wes Anderson's aesthetic would be interesting, but by that metric this is quite a weak article. It's 90% film synopsis.

Back on-topic, the trailer (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4dIw_pYB0c) made me realise how much Wes Anderson's films owe to Herge's Tintin comics.

Because it's in the middle of the night.

It’s almost 8 in the morning, rush hour

With a bad, possibly even dismissive expression, the poster may have wanted to note that (interestingly) to different timezone-related aggregations seem to correspond different interests.

...But details-wise, I think Dang for example has shown to be often active at this time.
