I've been a Caps -> Escape-er for years now. Recently, as I've moved to Walyand and KDE Plasma, I saw that their advanced settings support Caps -> Esc / Ctrl: Esc when pressed, Ctl when held. I've been considering it, especially since I recently broke and replaced my Ctrl key. Inertia holds me back, but I had the same concern before Caps -> Esc.

For 100x caps lock is an unergonomic position with a sideways pinky move. Much better to move it near space to a thumb (home rows is another alternative, but harder to set up)

Please don't feel attacked. At least with Ctrl there, the combination is less awkward. My point is that vim is dumb is you don't use some workaround around the problem and most people don't talk about it and just tell you that vim is great and then wonder why it's niche.
