This isn't the MSM busting his ass because he's not progressive enough, it's him being in the news because he is extremely powerful and has fallen into the culture war rabbit holes, which sadly, is the driving factor in US elections.
It is the rightness or wrongness of what someone does that determines one's stance on that person. It makes no sense to try to analyze a change in stance without looking at the underlying rightness or wrongness.
If that’s true then everyone should be hating Luigi Mangione by now.
More than that: it's human nature to identify lines of disagreement when observing within your in group. You and I might agree on 99 things, but we will suss out–with preternatural efficiency–the one we disagree on. (Again, if we identify as being in the same group. Travel to a foreign country and you'll notice similarities.)
Taking public positions on anything tends to leave some people happy, most people uninterested and a lot of people furious. It's why experienced politicians tend to have a few drums they beat--the ones who are undiscplined get weeded out. Musk takes a position on everything.
Many if not most people develop opinions about the world by trying them on for size and engaging with it.
In our daily personal life, people might say something dumb in the morning and change their mind by dinner.
Despite this being fundamentally human behavior, few things outrage the public as much as public characters who are inconsistent. CEOs and politicians especially are expected to never change their minds or positions, even on multi decade timescales.
Elon Musk's reputational downfall is mostly self-inflicted. I say this as a (reluctant) defender of Musk's reputation, ardent even.
There's only so many rounds I am going to bat for the truth when the man continues to set his reputation on fire. Well deserved even? Yes.
He just turned out to be a shit person to a lot of folks. People soured on him, actively disliking him by getting to know more of his unfiltered public persona.
A few years ago he was an eccentric billionaire running a EV company, a space company, lots of cool stuff happening. Now he's someone trying to meddle on the politics of multiple countries for pushing his own agenda: USA, Brazil, the UK, Germany, Ukraine, etc.
It's not the MSM reporting that created the issue, it's just and purely himself creating the heat...
His pathetic public diatribes are there for everyone to see, some people love it but seems like quite a lot hate it. I'm one of those, used to think "whatever" about Musk's eccentricity and nowadays I really dislike whatever that shell of a human being is, a pathetic man-child with too much power.
It's a shame because if not he'd have a very fucking impressive list of achievements as a savvy businessperson to live by, he's just a broken person with too much power.
