Thanks for correcting. I can be a (non-correcting) grammar nazi in Swedish , so I wholeheartedly accept your critique.

I'm not a native English speaker and I tend to make this mistake if I don't think twice.

This time I just typed without thinking twice, hence the outcome.

This thread derailing into a discussion about my spelling mistake will probably make me think thrice before I write this word the next time. :D

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity and doing so graciously! I also found the discussion of the phonetics of the two words in other comments enlightening.

"Lose" is pronounced with the "oo" sound like in "ooze", "tool", or "moot". I think people get tripped up on that and spell it the way it sounds.

Which accent do you have that you pronounce "tool" like "two-l"?

American, but in what accent do those words use different vowel sounds?

And also at this point a lot of people are just sick and tired of fighting autocorrect when they type a word right but the autocorrect deems that word not the correct one and swaps it with another (for example typing "fuck" and autocorrect swaps with "duck" and have just begun "eh, anyone with an ounce of IQ will read that how its intended" and move on with their time.

You can frame the nitpicking positively: "a good comment like yours deserves good grammar/spelling: I think you meant ..., not ..."

Would you be ok with an addendum to your wise advise?

My spouse indicates that before initiating constructive criticism it is appropriate to inquire if the subject is receptive to such communication.
