I believe peoples have a right to discuss whatever they want in perfect privacy. A messaging application advertising itself at "private" and "secure" shouldn't bow down at government requests. At least they should have dropped these slogans a long time ago... Anyway peoples aware of that already switched to a superior platform (signal, matrix...)

This seems more of a 2-party consent vs 1-party consent issue. Based on the wording it seems to refer to the ability of users to report content.

If you tell me something and I report that to a third party is a different situation than if the third party listened to our conversation.

I get what you are saying, if you report something you saw to the authorities (for example someone about to commit a grave crime) and show them voluntarily the conversation, no problems with that the platform isn't at fault here. But the technology shouldn't allow the platform to get access to the whole conversation, just what you want to show/report. And that would be by design.
