Recently I needed to do some ESP32 development. The project was built on Windows and I wanted to maintain fidelity to the build environment.
So I installed WSL along with all of the rest of what I’m used to like NeoVim and Fish. Made my changes from there, then I opened a Windows command prompt to actually build, which ironically depended on MinGW.
Oh yeah, it's still pretty bad. But it has been improving, 10 years ago it didn't have WSL, 20 years ago it barely had any memory safety.
