This is one company (Luxottica, not Meta) that I cannot for the life of me figure out why the FTC/DOJ haven't been constantly trying to break up. It very clearly is a hugely dominant monopoly with significant pricing power over consumers
Because Luxottica is not a US company, they are an Italian company based in Milan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luxottica) which puts them out of direct reach of the US FTC/DOJ.
With all the things going on in the country, overpricing frivolous designer eyewear seems pretty safe from attack. They're clearly doing just exactly this too as I sit here in my $250 worth of Ray Ban plastic as I type this.
Clever monopoly, most people like having eyesight.
