I think all who offer a discount if you buy a license for a whole year but pay by month. I don't see the problem with them requesting you pay the original amount for the months you used the product if you cancel before the year is out.

You entered a contract where you promised to pay for a year, and they gave you a smaller fee. You cancel the contract, so they should cancel the discount.
