It's a great time for you foreigners to visit Japan. For me, a Japanese, it is quite depressing.
I know nothing about economics so please enlighten me: with the yen weakening, does it affect inflation in japan? Say 10 years ago I can have 1 nigiri for 100 yen, which was about $1 back then, does that mean I can have 1.5 nigiri now or inflation catches up and turn out I still can only buy 1 nigiri?
Even people who claim to know economics have a hard time explaining Japan (and Argentina).
After decades of stagnation and deflation, Japan has only recently started to see inflation.
The old joke is that there are three types of economies in the world: Japan, Argentina, and everyone else.
I was in Japan a few weeks ago, iirc onigiri was ~120yen at 7-11, which was less than a dollar. So yes with a dollar you could buy more than you could 10 years ago
