You're very quick to condemn somebody to prison without even knowing how it happened

The ship was under the control of two local harbour pilots at the time.

The fault was likely to be mechanical | electrical, and the blame would lie with the owner and their maintainance programs.

I hope it's not something as simple as ran-out-of-fuel. The plumes of black smoke look similar to large engines 'restarting', with the last few drops of fuel.

I would expect (hope?) the harbor pilots would take note of the ships fuel level at the start of their operations and refuse to move the vessel till it's fixed.

I am thinking that more information is needed before charges should be brought and if charges are brought then perhaps there should be a trial. I know it's popular to judge someone based on a limited amount of media, but I think it's a highly unfair act.

It appears the ship lost power twice before hitting the bridge. I doubt the captain could do anything with no control.

Still, the captain should make sure the ship is operational to make a trip before starting any trip

But, still, yes, I admit I should have been at least a tiny bit more clear-headed when I made my initial comment

The captain was probably thinking ‘oh shit’. This was almost certainly an accident that the captain wasn’t solely responsible for.
