I agree that dealing with a local US company is nice on paper, but not sure what value you'd be getting for almost twice as much. If you were planning on doing something like buying 4 of them for a cluster, you could get 7 for the same price..

Fair enough.. that's a reasonable mark up.

How do you come to that conclusion? It does not appear to be reasonable in the slightest. It's an OEM box, so it's not likely that you are paying for any direct engineering/lifecycle support. The additional ~70% markup doesn't justify what is basically a better hardware warranty. At that point it's better to just buy some spare hardware to keep around.

Hopefully this is all just preliminary and we get some sanity back by the time the options and ordering is ready.

I am agreeing with the parent comment that you could afford 7 minis for 4 SNs. Reasonable was an incorrect word choice.
