But does it work like that for other professions which also don't require a formal degree/license? Also how it would work world-wide or do you mean a national one and bar expats until they pass it?

For doctors and lawyers one may need to go a long mile to get necessary paperwork done in order to work in another country

What certification could do is ensure a bare minimum level of knowledge. You wouldn't be able to skip the interview, but you could shorten it and not require ridiculous things like FizzBuzz and "write a 'for loop' for me". It's not a silver bullet.

Triplebyte tried to do this, but apparently companies were only skipping phone screens for those candidates, not interview rounds.
