Kind of an unpopular opinion, but we should create a formal certification system for developers. Not something like a license to code, but something more like a professional organization where to get in you have to do all the BS that you get in interviews. This is how it works for lawyers, doctors, accountants and other professionals. Imagine doctors going on job interviews and being asked trivia questions from high school biology like draw the Krebs Cycle on a whiteboard. It's ridiculous. If we could get the BS out of the way, job interviews could be more about finding out what an individual can bring to the organization. Everyone would be happier.
