A friend told me that when she was in school, they'd hand in their programming assignments on paper, and a week later they'd get the output. She said week-long "compilation times" make you learn to double check your work!
For me its like you can use paper for drawing but only 10 minutes a day. Or piano but only every second Monday for few hours.
