I agree that you cannot please all of the people all of the time, but decisions from those who never see the actual impact on Support is a negative for those doing the Support.
As with any team, it's important for everyone in it to be aware of what other team members are doing, what their needs are, and so forth. It doesn't matter if the team members are devs, support, design, management, etc. Everyone has to be on the same page and understand each other.
Deploy change on Friday ...... have a lovely weekend off.
Wander in Monday and wonder why everyone hates you.

Same page? Often it wasn't even the same book.
I will never understand why any organization even allows Friday or pre-holiday deployments. It's just so obviously a terrible idea on its face.
