People seemed to hate the Apple Lightning standard, but I never seemed to have this kind of problem before...

Odd, since it’s common knowledge that many carplay devices dont work with anything but apple “original” cables, mine included.

Bumping up sample size to N=2: I had some cheap no name Lightning cables from Amazon and CarPlay worked fine for me.

What would be the analogous USB C “original” cable that definitely works?

I'm sure Apple can sell you one that will work?

Anker cables work for my CarPlay head unit. Others I had troubles with.

I don't have any problems with an Anker Powerline+ A-to-C cable, 0.5m.
