And most cases as far as I understand revolve around the users not actually paying attention as they should.
I agree that the system is marketed wrong. It should be called a copilot which implies the dual control responsibilities. Unfortunately that will never happen now as Microsoft has bet their whole company on this trademark :) :)
I think there's certainly a place for AI though. But for driving it's not there yet, at least to be in full control.
Because they're given the wrong impression that they can not pay attention.
Several paid with their lives (or with the lives of others) for it: accident that'd have been prevented had they kept their eyes on the road and their hands on the steering wheel.
I mean: either it's an auto-pilot or it isn't. Auto-pilot means I can take a nap. An auto-pilot which must be baby-sitted isn't an auto-pilot.
I do agree that "AutoPilot" and "Full Self Driving" are false advertising and shouldn't be used. But the driver has a responsibility of knowing what their car can and can't do.
I'm pretty sure even those killed drivers were aware of the limitations but just chose to ignore them.
It's far worse than anything tesla offers.
Check out the language SenseAuto is using in this press release. It's truly bonkers.
