'Git', at least, while not particularly rude, was deliberate.

What's rude is highly regional though, I'm sure "git" could be considered very rude in some places while not at all in some. Just like "cunt" isn't as rude in some places as in others.

_Is_ git very rude anywhere, tho? As far as I know, it's very mild in the UK and Ireland, not really used elsewhere, but I may be missing somewhere.

I would not be afraid to google those though.

Many folks in the community are uncomfortable with the name and have asked the project to change it, to no avail.

Don't forget "Unix".
