The New York Times is a U.S. newspaper, and milkweeds are native there.

But not all readers are, neither of the NYT nor HN.

So it's good to remind those that the article is only valid for Americans.

And to remind readers that not everyone in north america is American. Geographically, most of north america is not part of the USA.

Nobody needs to be reminded of that. We're not retarded.

There are two continents in the western hemisphere: North America and South America.

Right like everyone in New York State is a New Yorker, right? Of Roman being from Rome but could also refer to ancient Romans.
