Ethanol demand destruction should be expected with rapid EV uptake [1]. Which is good. We're farming 40 million+ acres in the US [2] for a fuel additive that is not congruent with climate goals [3] [4].

Ethanol from sugarcane in Brazil is a different story.

Now there is endless talk about “ethanol from cellulosic biomass” but it’s like the talk about pyrolysis or the fast breeder reactor.

I think ethanol is not even interesting as a sustainable aviation fuel, as the industry seems to reject any kind of oxygenated fuel for reasons I still haven’t figured out. So they are falling back on Fischer-Tropsch chemistry and similar boondoggles.
