I don't know if a terminal or CLI can be considered "outdated".

One man's outdated tech is another's timeless classic.

Using a terminal as a full-blown IDE probably is.

In my experience, that's always been the standard among Vim--and even some Emacs--users.

They said "terminal", not "CLI/TUI apps", so probably only using cat, sed, and ed ;)
