Have you bee to any Ruby conferences? All well executed, modulo the usual small crap that can't be avoided. David, Rich, Chad, et al do a very good, and often thankless, job.

I just realized how you can best help the Ruby community. FOrget your $$$. Offer to look after the RubyCentral Web site so that it remains stable.
Seriously; that's pretty much the only way things happen in OSS communities. Bitching is less effective.
