Not necessarily unless the behavior is yet present in its biology. The research suggests that they are more complex animals than the simple image shown in the films and this is a valid point. The animals are traveling together on purpose apparently.
We could track enough humans for a long long time and still we wouldn't watch humans melting into one big sporangium, or growing feathered wings.
