When I train my wetware neural net on copyrighted work, that does not make everything produced by it in the future copyright infringement. Why should it be otherwise for my silicon neural net?
Don't be confused by the word "learning" there. People learn and machines learn, but these are two separate concepts referring to two distinct and different processes. In short, no, a script kiddie cannot train an AI model on the hard-won effort of an illustrator and then reasonably claim to have "learned" how to draw in that style. It's intellectual property theft, conflation of "learn" notwithstanding.
