Can we please get monitors that can find their signal within 100ms?

Can we please get monitors that communicate their orientation (portrait/landscape etc.) to the computer?

This is truly disgusting, I bought Samsung U28R55 and it takes over 15 seconds to switch between HDMI1 and HDMI2, HDMI2 and DP, or between DP and HDMI1. When it lost signal it become unresponsive, monitor menu disappears, any debug info disappears and you can only push joystick to switch video source to another one, so if I need to switch between DP and HDMI2 it takes almost one minute and user experience is joke.

The Apple Studio Display autodetects rotation and lets the connected computer know so it can adjust the picture accordingly, but it connects over Thunderbolt. It should be possible for monitors to do this over USB-C too, but I’m not sure about plain DisplayPort or HDMI.

sigh

Ok FINE I will move the goalpost

I want all that in a monitor that doesn't cost more than a typical modal monthly income in Europe

Not Europe but Latin America, still even taking the US into account... man, the monitor market is so bad! Mass items still stuck in low resolutions, 4k goes way up, and not so many options.

I mean I get it's not the TV market, but it does feel more niche compared to 10 years ago.

The earliest used iMacs with 5K displays seem consistent options on the affordable side tho, and better than test-driving a possible lemon from DELL/HP/Spectre or a middle range panel from Samsung/LG.

Not exclusively—it supports regular DP Alt Mode, though no idea if those advanced features also work.

I2C (Aux) could do this.

TVs too—with various HDR standards, VRR etc becoming more popular these days I quite often find myself staring at a blank screen for 5-10s

With Smart TVs being the only option these days, I'm thinking about building my own TV from a computer monitor.

And don't go standby after 1s of signal loss.
