Even protein subunits are getting brand names now.

I guess clinical research into 'klotho' attracts more funding than, say, 7-9-beta-ortho-sonichedgehog-muscarintransferase

I don't think it is a brand name. A naming committee is naming genes with simple names

As a name, Lachesis would have made more sense too.
