Russian intelligence calls for Wagner chief’s arrest

I got notified from a text via a friend who closely follows the Ukraine/Russia war. Several news outlets are providing live updates. If Prigozhin takes this to the extremes (a full militarized coup attempt in Moscow) and the senior leadership fails to contain it, then it is very bad for Russia. On the other hand, if they contain it quickly things could be back to normal on Sunday.

Who knows, I'll wait and see. Since this is the first post about it on HN I figured I'd put my comment here.

Not exactly the first post, but maybe the earliest as-yet-unflagged post? (see https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=36452290 for earlier discussion)

Okay, so first post that I saw when I got on HN. But thanks for the link.

It's been posted a dozen times already today

So much for being "hacker" news.

There are reports Wagner is driving into Rostov unopposed. Seems unlikely this is going to be quickly contained.

Prigohzin is the one reporting his own success. Hardly informative.

If I were an inhabitant of Rostov, I’d do everything possible to leave the city in the next 12 to 24 hours.

On one hand it feels like a psyop, trying to get people to react, but on the other hand, the amount of incompetence in the Russian military makes me genuinely wonder if this is a legit coup attempt.

It's been like watching a badly written tv show.

One doesn’t go public on camera and say “we crossed the border back to Russia, we enter Rostov, I’m not stopping, if you stand in my way, I will destroy you” to later say “da, sorry, it was silly, stupid me, sorry, I swear I’ll be good comrade”.

The guy is either dead soon or it ends up in fights in Moscow.

He said openly on camera that the Russian MOD started a war while Ukraine and NATO didn’t pose any threat to Russia. There’s no going back. He closed all doors.

If you don't want to assert the truth of the matter, that's fine. Most people most of the time shouldn't. But that doesn't mean it has to be a psyop or something equally egregious. Just let it be whatever it is.
