The equivalent here would be to say that the guy has to do any landscaping for free from now on as he has done it for free before.

Mods have always been abusive and used their outweighed power to push their political agendas. It’s time they got a taste of their own medicine
Reddit forgets that it has the position it does solely because of the community. Without the content provided by users (and managed by mods), Reddit would be an empty husk. It always irks me when people talk about who "owns" Reddit. I'll use myself as a counterexample. I founded a small rhythm game modding community about six years ago. I created it, I named it, I ran it by myself for a couple of years before it actually became somewhat popular. There was a pivotal moment where two separate things happened to greatly increase our reach. As a few of the members rose to prominence with their contributions to the community, I brought them in as moderators and later administrators. Now, I could have maintained my "boss man" position, I could have looked at the community as "mine", but I chose not to. I made them equal administrators to myself, and I stopped making unilateral decisions as to how things would work. I did this in recognition of the fact that, without their contributions, "my" community would be nothing. The community is bigger than me, and that's ok.
Reddit is the same way. Without the moderators and users of the site, Reddit would be nothing. Throwing your e-peen around and smacking everyone in the face with it "because it's your site" is a very arrogant decision, one that ignores the role users and moderators have played in the site's success. All to chase the almighty dollar.
Reddit seems to have forgotten the lesson they originally gave Digg. No matter, Reddit will eventually be irrelevant, just like every such UGC-driven site that loses sight of how they got where they are. Reddit's no Facebook, in terms of sheer resistance to this due to size, and they never will be if they keep it up.
