Having graduated to the most populous country in the world this year with a population of 1.43 billion people [2], energy security is a top strategic imperative for India. It has always been the case for independent India in the past 75 years.
From the article:
> Russian crude oil arrivals to India are expected to surpass 2 million barrels a day in April, representing almost 44% of the nation’s overall oil imports, according to Kpler data.
With that level of dependence on Russian oil for its energy security, it is highly unlikely for India to change its strategic calculus, Bloomberg article and First-world-pearl-clutching notwithstanding.
