Hahahahaha YEah, i actually thought the article would be something like " Since our pricing model is not well received, and we can not fund the project without charging heavily, and no one wants to pay, well byebye?!"

I had exactly the same reaction this morning, and - again - wished for subdomains for some special domains like google.com

Uhm, for some reason it didn't even cross my mind such possibility. Instantly thought it was someone quitting GMaps for some other tool, and that's what it was.

Afterwards I did ponder why it was showing google.com domain, and yes, I can understand it can be misleading.

I had the same reaction. In this case I think I would have had the same reaction even with a subdomain since Google has started to announce things on their various Google+ Pages.

I actually thought they were retiring it!
