Im curious, what stops AMD writing an api/abi compatibility layer for cuda?
The whole ROCm stuff is built around the idea that you push out a half-working, buggy, and slow mess as Open Source and then the community will take over and maintain it into a usable product. But that hasn't happened so far. Instead of building their own FOSS libraries, people are happy to use NVIDIA's proprietary libraries.
