The oped was horrible. Shades of "I find your lack of faith disturbing".

"[Signal's] proposition that if anyone has access to data, then many unauthorized people probably will have access to that data is false. This response reflects a lack of faith in good governance..."

Not surprised the times is actively pushing against user privacy. The NYT is an extension of the USG, and will act as such. After the Iraq WMD debacle it’s amazing that we still hold this outlet to any reasonable standard.
