Wow! I've been learning how to code for a personal project but looking at this stuff, junior devs might be out of work soon.

Wait until the GPT-4 version is out, and seniors are in trouble too. People don’t realize, this is still in its infancy.

I showed this to my wife who is in academia. It can't replace academics because research, by its very definition, has to be new, but good God it's going to make her job impossibly hard - it's trivially easy to pump out papers with this tool. Once students catch on, it's going to be really hard to figure out what's a real paper and what's AI-generated.

And journals are going to have a real hard time dealing with "paper spam".

There are already books being sold on aAmazon that are complete junk, generated by GPT-3

Just ask the student in person to explain the paper to you.

Right now it is like when the camera had been around for a few years: People knew it was revolutionary, they went to the cinema to watch a train arrive and got terrified [1]. But compare that to the billions of camera phones, Marvel movies, Hubble, etc.

Would you say ASM devs make up any significant fraction of the software industry these days?

The point is that most of them were able to upskill and become much more productive by automating their previous workload.

Except when you need an ASM dev, or a COBOL dev (see: unemployment systems during the pandemic).

I think management should be first. AI managers sound very reasonable actually. Next stop, VCs. If we geeks were actually smart (regrettably we are practically not) the bots would be taking away non-geek jobs.
