IMHO developers who publish their software as open source but actually making it difficult to use their open source version , is doing them a disservice , because the first user experience itself is that of a feeling of deceit and is less than ideal. For example this one says there are docker components available for self hosting but it is clear the developers did not put as much heart into the open source version as they have done with their hosted or commercial version. It is simply better to be upfront about it.
