Man, what a time to be alive! Who would have thought it.
Edit: who's extending, embracing and extinguishing now?!

The day they push some proprietary or oddly licensed technology to be integrated into their Linux is the day a thousands alerts should be raised into the community. Then will come software that runs only, or runs better, on their Linux. WSL was the first step: making something with both Microsoft and Linux in its name accepted by the community.
Here, here. I haven't seen anything yet that isn't straight out of the MS playbook on this.
has Dell, or anyone else, been told to stop selling laptops with Linux in favor of Windows with WSL under threat that they won't be able to sell Windows laptops anymore?
exactly what world are you seeing, because it isn't the one I live on.

EFI boot?TianoCore is an open source reference implementation of UEFI maintained by Intel; there's no proprietary Microsoft stuff in there.
Microsoft seek to ease development for users who either choose Windows or who are forced to use Windows by an employer. there's no "play" here, no extending or extinguishing. They want, like any reasonable developer would, a better world for software developers.
Still an open question, I'd say.
I think it's more like, "Why run a NT Kernel?" or from an MS internal perspective, "Why fund development and testing of an NT Kernel? We already made it so all legacy Windows apps run natively on Linux anyways"
Be as watchful as you want, be aware that the enemy isn’t coming though.
