People act like "Oh my god this guy did a thing that no real scientist would do". Yet, my cousin was in a biotech lab where she was unable to replicate the result she was relying on to do her next work. The reason? Original result photoshopped the outcome. She quit and went elsewhere.
Meanwhile, I'm sure some online expert has gone and linked that study saying something like "There's evidence that this gene does that" and whatnot.
There's wholesale fraud in science. And if you guys want to act like it's not then fine. Go ahead and believe what you want. It's your funeral.
