As someone who's quite active I've found my optimal diet isn't a lot of red meat, but a lot of fish, a lot of leafy vegetables, olive oil as the fat, and generally a LOT of protein with full amino acid profiles (chicken, whey protein-based things like Quest chips and Core Power Protein shakes that are made from real milk). YMMV but that's what I've found as a middle-aged guy who's experimented and does many hours of muscle-destroying activities as a hobby.
Veganism doesn't fit into this picture. I could MAYBE tolerate alternative tastes, but I can't risk my health because of a loose ethical goal that concerns all of our (and especially our industry's) behaviors in relation to climate change.
