There's always vscodium which which doesn't have the tracking, similar to Chromium browser vs Chrome: https://vscodium.com/

As the post mentioned, even the VSCodium team cannot shutdown all telemetry. Seems some do not have switches?

Why not just remove it from the source code?

Given the frequency of updates, maintaining a privacy fork with anything but minor changes would be a Sisyphean task.

ungoogled-chromium and Bromite do it for Chromium, so it should theoretically be possible for VSCode.

Maybe there are dependencies on closed source libraries or API's which report telemetry? I'm no expert on this though.

I wish they could find a way around some missing plugins, but it does what I need it to.

Just fix your marketplace settings and use official plugins :)

Thank you! Was always annoying when coworkers would tell me about a plugin that I could not install (or worse, had an old broken one)

Does VScodium support WSL now ? I need windows unfortunately for office apps.

Remote-WSL (and all other remote plugins) plugin is proprietary MS plugin, so no.

You can go a bit different way: run code-server or OpenVSCode Server in WSL and open them in a browser.
