This is huge, and I wonder how much Amazon culture Dave is going to intentionally implement in Flexport. I heard the heavy recruitment of Amazonian people and practices was already jarring enough to tenured Flexport employees.
He is going to intentionally implement A LOT of Amazon culture. He is going to find the Amazon people that work there, pull them closer to him, and then hire away a bunch more of his buddies from Amazon.
Think about it this way. Do you think he’s going to get there and go “we’re switching to a four-day workweek! And everyone gets a 20% raise!” Not going to happen.
If I was at Flexport and didn’t buy in to the Amazon culture I’d start polishing my resume.
I wouldn't write off the compensation though, Amazon tends to pay very competitively across the whole company, from bottom of the company to the top. If flexport doesn't, I assume it will soon.
